Next Plant Sale

The Desert Botanical Garden Plant Sale Festival, held twice a year in March and October, is a one-stop shopping experience featuring the largest variety of arid-adapted plants available in one location. Garden volunteers and horticulturists are on hand to answer questions, assist in plant selections and offer advice.

Plant Selection

Our selection includes trees, shrubs, perennials, vines, cacti, agaves and much more. View a list of plants generally, but not always, offered at our sales.

We introduced two new plants at the March 2011 Spring Plant Sale- Tecoma hybrid ‘Solar Flare’ ® P.P.A.F. and Tecoma hybrid ‘Crimson Flare’ ® P.P.A.F.

Tecoma hybrid ‘Solar Flare’ ® P.P.A.F.

AT A GLANCE SUMMARY

  • SIZE (H X W): 6-8 feet x 6-8 feet
  • FLOWER COLOR: Red
  • FLOWER SEASON: Spring - Fall
  • EXPOSURE: Full Sun
  • WATER: Low to Moderate
  • GROWTH RATE: Rapid
  • HARDINESS: 15º F, USDA Zone 8
  • PRUNING: Prune hard after frost

For several years Mountain State Wholesale Nursery has been breeding Tecomas in the hunt for a red-flowering selection. Crimson Flare® displays clusters of red flowers in the spring and fall, although the summer heat can bleach them to pink. Hummingbirds feast on their nectar. This clone has outstanding deep green foliage, providing a showy backdrop for the red blossoms. Full sun and reflected heat locations are ideal for this heat-loving shrub. Crimson Flare® grows rapidly to a mature size of eight feet tall and wide. Freezing temperatures may burn the foliage, but simply cut plants back hard to rejuvenate in the early spring.
