8th Arizona Botany Meeting: Plant-Animal Interactions

Hosted by the Desert Botanical Garden and the Arizona Native Plant Society

Our goal is to foster a spirit of cooperation for the sharing of ideas among and facilitating collaboration between individuals from academic institutions, local, state, and federal government agencies, and non-governmental organizations from across the state of Arizona, and also to provide a forum to meet others who share an interest in the flora of Arizona and surrounding areas within the Southwest.

Please spread the word and mark your calendars for Arizona Botany 2011. We look forward to seeing you at another successful and productive meeting!

Meeting Details

When

  • Saturday, February 12, 2011 from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.
    • A social hour will follow the afternoon sessions that includes a cash bar.
    • Dinner can be purchased for an additional $20 with meeting registration, but payment must be received by Feb. 4th. Please note: dinner tickets cannot be purchased at the time of the event.

Where

Main meeting will be held at the Desert Botanical Garden in Dorrance Hall

Additional Activities

  • Friday, February 11, 2011: Arizona Native Plant Society Board meeting. All are welcome. 
  • Field trip on February 13th to Mesquite Wash (S of Sunflower off hwy 87), led by Michael Plagens. Field trip will leave from the Garden's main entrance at 9 a.m. and return by 1 p.m.; car-pool.

Presenting at the Meeting

Space will  be available for relevant poster presentations and tables will be available for display of relevant literature and books or organizations.

  • Richard Bailowitz (Arizona Entomological Society)
    • “Butterflies are Herbivores too”
  • John Palting (Sky Island Alliance)
    • “Spectacular Insects of Sonora, and their Plant Associations”

Register

Early registration is due by January 28th. Late registration fee (after Jan. 29) is $45 ($30 students). Registration will not be accepted after Feb. 4th.

  • An entrance pass to Desert Botanical Garden
  • Continental breakfast, lunch, refreshments (coffee & tea)
  • 10% discount at the Garden Gift Shop
