April

1

Friday

Start Earth Month by composting your green waste – it holds moisture and nutrients in your soil and limits the materials going into the landfill!

Did you know? The Garden composts green waste throughout the year, and so can you. Learn how to compost in our Desert Gardening Guide.

2

Saturday

Hiking or biking this weekend? Stay on the trail - responsible trail use promotes soil integrity, plant regeneration and protects animal habitat.

Did you know? Garden staff contributes valuable research that helps guide the management of national monuments, parks and other public lands.

3

Sunday

Give children the ultimate gift: a connection to nature. Help them explore our desert ecology in your neighborhood park and even your backyard.

Did you know? The Garden offers a variety of programs, camps and activities that connect children to nature.

4

Monday

Eat seasonally and purchase locally – you’ll minimize transportation waste and help support our local economy.

Did you know? The Garden regularly offers cooking and gardening workshops that feature local produce.

5

Tuesday

Drink filtered water instead of bottled water to reduce pollution and to conserve the oil and water used to produce plastic bottles and for purification.

Did you know? The Garden is one of a handful of gardens that has on-site molecular laboratories to conduct genetic research.

6

Wednesday

For your home landscape, choose plants that are water efficient, native or tolerant to local conditions. A great resource can be found at here.

Did you know? Drop by our Ask a Gardener station before the end of April to learn more about creating a beautiful and low-water use landscape.
